Information on all Council opportunities are available from https://www.qprc.nsw.gov.au/Council/Careers
We generally do a recruitment in the lead-up to summer but also depends on when positions become available.
Qualifications
If you would like to be considered for a Casual Recreation Facilitator position it is a requirement that you hold one of the following qualifications:
- Lifeguard Certification, or
- Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety Certification, issued by a relevant organisation such as Royal Life Saving, Austswim, or Swim Australia.
For information on training courses, please visit: https://www.royallifesaving.com.au/training-development/training-courses.
Additionally, if you are over 18 years of age, you will require a valid Working With Children Check. Applications for this check can be submitted here: https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-for-a-working-with-children-check.
Shadowing
After completing a Lifeguard or Swimming Teacher qualification, you will generally need to undergo volunteer training to obtain a licence.
For Lifeguards, this involves completing three 2-hour practice sessions as part of your licencing requirements. We recommend participating in a variety of sessions (e.g., morning, afternoon, or weekend) to experience the facility during different times and under varying conditions.
Once you have completed your training course, please contact the centre at 02 6285 6346 or email us at aquatics@qprc.nsw.gov.au to arrange your shadowing sessions and assessment.
