Levels

BABIES

A water familiarisation program for parents and their children aged six months to 36 months.

Our Babies classes are a child-centred program which is taught with parent or carer and child together in the water. Babies classes use songs, games and activities to teach children a variety of skills including entries, floating, conditioning and movement.

Our Babies classes have three stages that are arranged by age groups.

Babies One (six to 12 months) 

Water familiarisation and conditioning

Babies Two (13 to 24 months) 

Propulsion through the water

Babies Transition (Two years plus) 

Preparing for transition to an independent class

 

INFANT

A program that builds water confidence for preschool aged children between the ages of three to five years.

This program is fundamental to the development of basic foundation skills in swimming, survival and water safety. The program progresses from initial parental participation to children interacting independently with the instructor.

Our Infant program has two levels arranged by ability.

Infant Beginner 

  • Submerge and blow bubbles
  • Independent swim
  • Back float

Infant Advanced 

  • Jump in turn around and back float
  • Back torpedo
  • Independent swim eyes in (unassisted)

 

LATE BEGINNER

The late beginner program caters for school age students with little to no water experience. The aim of this class is to build water confidence and skills, and to then transition the student into the appropriate school age level.

  • Back float
  • Freestyle arms
  • Deep water experience

 

SCHOOL AGE

A swimming and water safety program for school aged children between the ages of five to 14 years. This program is a broad and balanced program teaching a range of skills and knowledge to develop swimming, water safety, survival and basic rescue skills. The School Age program has seven levels to progress through based on ability.

Level One (swimming five metres with correct technique) 

  • Over arm freestyle
  • Backstroke
  • Sitting Dive

Level Two (swimming 10 metres with correct technique)

  • Crouching dive entry
  • Bilateral breathing freestyle
  • Backstroke with correct body position

Level Three (swimming 15 metres with correct technique) 

  • Butterfly kick
  • Freestyle and backstroke
  • Survival backstroke (breaststroke kick foundation)
  • Standing dive

Level Four (swimming 20 metres with correct technique) 

  • Front somersault
  • Basic breaststroke
  • Basic butterfly

Level Five (swimming 25 metres with correct technique)

  • Bent arm freestyle
  • Backstroke with correct catch phase
  • Breaststroke and Butterfly with correct timing
  • Front tumble turn

Stroke Correction (swimming 50 metres with correct technique) 

  • Tumble turns (all strokes)
  • Race starts and finishes (all strokes)
  • Correct technique all strokes

Fun Fit (swimming 100 – 200 metres with correct technique) 

  • Race Dives
  • Correct technique (all strokes)
  • Rescue’s and tows
