Swimming Lessons
QPRC Aquatics provides a range of swimming lessons across our four pools; Braidwood, Bungendore, Captains Flat and Queanbeyan.
Offering swim programs for babies through to adults, our qualified learn to swim instructors will advise you on which swim program is best suited for you or your children.
Levels
A water familiarisation program for parents and their children aged six months to 36 months. Our Babies classes are a child-centred program which is taught with parent or carer and child together in the water. Babies classes use songs, games and activities to teach children a variety of skills including entries, floating, conditioning and movement. Our Babies classes have three stages that are arranged by age groups.
Babies One (six to 12 months)

Preparing for transition to an independent class
A program that builds water confidence for preschool aged children between the ages of three to five years. This program is fundamental to the development of basic foundation skills in swimming, survival and water safety. The program progresses from initial parental participation to children interacting independently with the instructor. Our Infant program has two levels arranged by ability.
Infant Beginner

Infant Advanced
- Unassisted front torpedo with kicking

The late beginner program caters for school age students with little to no water experience. The aim of this class is to build water confidence and skills, and to then transition the student into the appropriate school age level.

A swimming and water safety program for school aged children between the ages of five to 14 years. This program is a broad and balanced program teaching a range of skills and knowledge to develop swimming, water safety, survival and basic rescue skills. The School Age program has seven levels to progress through based on ability.
Level One (swimming five metres with correct technique)
- Side torpedo
- Over arm freestyle with continuous bubbles
- Backstroke
- Sitting Dive
Level Two (swimming 10 metres with correct technique)
- Freestyle with side breathing
- Backstroke with correct body position
- Develop butterfly kick rhythm
- Crouching dive
Level Three (swimming 15 metres with correct technique)
- Freestyle with side breathing and backstroke
- Survival backstroke kick (correct breaststroke kick technique)
- Butterfly kick arms extended
- Standing Dive
Level Four (swimming 20 metres with correct technique)
- Freestyle and Backstroke
- Basic Breaststroke
- Basic Butterfly
- Front Somersault
- Standing dive with streamline finish
Level Five (swimming 25 metres with correct technique)
- Bent arm freestyle
- Backstroke with correct catch phase
- Breaststroke and Butterfly with correct timing
- Front tumbleturn with streamline finish
Stroke Correction (swimming 50 metres with correct technique)
- Correct Technique for all strokes
- Race starts and finishes
- Turns for all strokes
Fun Fit (swimming 100 – 200 metres with correct technique)
- Correct Technique for all strokes
- Race starts and finishes
- Rescue’s and tows
- Swimming Sequence using the clock
We offer two types of classes: Adult Beginner and Adult Intermediate.
Adult Beginner
For adults with little to no water experience who would like to learn the basics of swimming and water safety.
- Buoyancy (Floating)
- Breath control
- Propulsion through the water
Adult Intermediate
For adults who can swim but would like to learn/improve a particular skill or stroke.
SQUAD
The squad program is for children who wish to continue their swimming training with either competitive, social or fitness based goals. Our squad program is delivered by an ASCTA qualified coach and is designed to fine tune swimmers stroke and improve swim fitness and speed. Swimmers can choose to do either two or four sessions a week.

This will be a ten week term for all students.

No Lessons on ANZAC Day (Monday 25 April 2022) and the Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday (Monday 13 June 2022).
This will be an eight week term for Monday students. This will be a ten week term for all other students.
TERM THREE
Monday 18 July 2022 to Sunday 25 September 2022
This will be a ten week term for all students.
TERM FOUR
Monday 10 October 2022 to Sunday 18 December 2022
This will be a nine week term for all students.
